Creating a new Document in Scribus
In this section, we will create a simple newsletter from scratch using Scribus.
When you first start Scribus, the following dialogue box will be displayed:

Here, you can choose the basic layout (-e.g. size, fold, orientation) of the document you wish to create. In our example, we want a simple, single page A4 portrait-format document, so the defaults are fine and we just click the "OK" button to open a new, blank, document:

In order to add text in the document, we need first to create a text frame in which text can be placed. To do this, choose the following menu option:
Insert → Insert Text Frame:

With the text frame tool selected, map out the area in the document where you want the text to appear by click-dragging the mouse, then releasing the left mouse button:

Once defined, you can resize the area by selecting one of the corners of the text frame and dragging it until the area is the correct size:

Likewise, if the text area is not in the correct place, simply click inside it (-mouse pointer will change to a "hand" icon) and you can drag the area to the correct location:

Once positioned correctly, simply double-click inside the box and type in the desired text:

Very much like text, if you want to place an image in a Scribus document, you need to first create an image frame in which the graphics can be placed. To do this, choose the following menu option:
Insert → Insert Image Frame:

With the image frame tool selected, map out the area in the document where you want the image to appear by click-dragging the mouse, then releasing the left mouse button:

The image frame area will be displayed with an "X" in it, to show that no image has yet been assigned to it:

Double click inside the image frame area and a dialogue box will display: use this to navigate to the desired image file and click "OK":

The image will be displayed inside the image frame area:

If the image is too large for your frame (-and you don't want to resize your frame), you can right click the image and choose the "Adjust Image to Frame" option, which will shrink the image to fit the frame:

With the image inserted and sized, you can save the document using the menu option:
File → Save As:

A dialogue box will display: navigate to the correct destination folder, enter the desired filename and click "OK":

Finally, close Scribus using the menu option:
File → Quit:
