Playing CDs on your Linux PC
For playing CDs, both Fedora and Ubuntu 10.x and below ship with the Rhythmbox application as standard. If you don't have this installed, then install this from your Software Centre or directly from the web. Once Rhythmbox is installed, just insert an audio CD.
In Ubuntu, Linux will read the CD and place an icon on the desktop, similar to the following:

If Rhythmbox does not autostart after the CD loads, then right click the “Audio Disc” icon and select “Open with Rhythmbox”:

In Fedora, you will see the following dialogue box display: click the drop-down box and choose "Rhythmbox" to read in the disc:

The Rhythmbox application should now read the CD and list the tracks, like the screenshot below:

For playing CDs, Ubuntu 11.04 and above ships with the Banshee application as standard. If you don't have this installed, then install this from your Software Centre or directly from the web (-for example, from http://banshee.fm/).
Once Banshee is installed, just insert an audio CD; Ubuntu Linux will read the CD and place an icon on the desktop, similar to the following:

If Banshee does not autostart after the CD loads, then right click the “Audio Disc” icon and select “Open with Banshee”:

To start the CD playing, click on a track and then click the "Play" button:

To stop the CD playing, click on the "Stop" or "Pause" buttons:
